Malawi Electoral Commission announces Theme and Voter Registration Update for 2025 General Election.
Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), has unveiled the official theme for the 2025 General Election: “Promoting Democratic Leadership Through Your Vote.” Speaking at a press briefing, she emphasized the significance of voting as both a right and a civic duty, encouraging all eligible Malawians to participate in the electoral process. The theme serves as a call to action for citizens to actively engage in shaping their country’s leadership.
Justice Mtalimanja also announced the commencement of the national voter registration, starting with meetings to demonstrate the new Election Management Devices (EMDs). These meetings, scheduled from July 31 to August 16, 2024, aim to ensure the smooth registration of voters. Additionally, a pilot voter registration will be conducted in August to test the new system before the actual registration begins.
The official launch of the 2025 General Election is set for August 2, 2024, in Lilongwe. This event will bring together various stakeholders to discuss the preparations for the elections, including the fresh voter registration necessitated by recent constituency and ward boundary re-demarcations. The Commission is committed to ensuring a transparent and inclusive electoral process, urging all eligible voters to register and participate in the upcoming elections.
